This beautiful Duille fine art print features ‘Yellow Clover’ drawn in pencil and watercolour by Charles Rennie Mackintosh on Holy Island ( Lindisfarne ) off the Northumbrian coast in 1901, here the work is reproduced at actual size in stunning high resolution. This is a museum-quality archival print made using materials which will last for many years.

About the work
A year after Charles and Margaret Mackintosh spent their honeymoon on Holy Island they returned with friends and family. Mackintosh completed many sketches and drawings of flowers. It is clear that his watercolour technique was developing during this trip and his use of pencil and watercolour in these elegant botanical studies became something of signature style which evolved over many years following. This work is a beautiful stylised representation ( possibly of more than one plant ) and the sinuous linework in the drawing of the stems is particularly redolent of classic Art Novueau motifs. Mackintosh’s drawing includes the initials ‘M’ and ‘T’ in the inscription panel and it is thought that this records his and Margaret’s presence in when the drawing was made ( ‘T’ in this case representing his nickname ‘Tosh’ or ‘Toshie’ ).
