This beautiful Duille fine art print features ‘The Bedroom’ by renowned Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh.

The Bedroom was made in 1888 whilst van Gogh was living in the south of France at Arles.

The painting is one of three versions which depict his own bedroom in the Yellow House.

About the work
The Bedroom was influenced by van Gogh’s interest in Japanese prints. He deliberately played with perspective and flattened the image, removing shadows. Several of his own works are shown hanging on the walls. The red counterpane on the bed, the blue / purple of the walls and the overall simplicity of the room appealed to van Gogh’s sense of how the room should be. The colours in the painting were chosen to give a sense of ‘repose’. The Bedroom was a favourite work of the artist. In a letter to his his brother Theo following his later hospitalisation he wrote “When I saw my canvases again after my illness, what seemed to me the best was the bedroom.” This is a work of great charm and enduring appeal.
