A museum-quality fine art giclée print of this stunning, atmospheric work by Japanese artist Sochu Kawase Hasui.
“Rain at Maekawa”, Sochu Kawese Hasui. 1932.
This stunning Duille fine art print features ‘Rain at Maekawa’ a woodblock by Japanese artist Sochu Kawase Hasui.
Said to be one of the artist’s favourite works he wrote, ‘I love quiet scenes with the shadow of loneliness hanging over them’. Hasui often created works picturing scenes at night, dawn or sunset. He sought to embody the inspiration of nature, atmospheric effects to suggest ephemerality, poetic moods of ‘tranquillity or contemplation’, the source of a Japanese sense of identity in values and sensibilities of the past and the capacity of ‘beauty’ for ‘expressing spirituality.
About the work
The array of traditional thatched-roof houses along the street, the shadows of large pine trees, a person walking with an umbrella, and the straight lines of rain produce a sense of tranquility as well as the nostalgia reminiscent of some work by Utagawa Hiroshige.
This is a museum-quality archival print made using materials which will last for many years.
