About the work
Morning Sun was made at Baumann’s studio in Santa Fe. It’s a relatively rare interior scene by the artist who focused mainly on the outdoors in a career spanning over seventy years. Baumann perfected a European-inspired printing technique using hand-cut wood blocks and was an influential figure both locally and more widely through multiple exhibitions and publications of his work. His distinctive ‘Hand in heart’ signature and checkered border distinguishes each piece. Like most of Baumann’s prints Morning Sun is suffused with glowing New Mexico light and uplifting colour. It’s a scene of great promise; an optimistic start to every day you will enjoy for many years to come.
