About the work
This beautiful pencil and watercolour drawing of ‘Heart’s – Ease’ (Viola Tricolor) by Charles Rennie Mackintosh was made in 1914 at Walberswick on the east coast of England where Mackintosh was living with his wife Margaret at that time. It is thought that this work, one of a series featuring wild flowers made around the same period, was intended for publication in a book.
