“Ice House, Coldwell, Lake Superior.” Lawren Harris. c. 1923.

This beautiful Duille fine art print features ‘Ice House, Coldwell, Lake Superior’ painted in oil on canvas by Lawren Harris around 1923.

Harris was a modernist pioneer and leading member of Canada’s famous Group of Seven.

About the work
This powerful work like many produced by Harris around this time portrays a cold elemental landscape, heavily stylised with dark expanses of water, barren shorelines and bright clear skies. One can almost feel the crisp chill of the air. This is one of a series of works painted on the north shore of Lake Superior between 1921 and 1928.

Harris, it is fair to say, utilised techniques found in many works from the twenties and thirties which later came to be called ‘Art Deco’. His later career was marked by increasing abstraction.

This is a museum-quality archival print made using materials which will last for many years.
