A beautiful premium quality card featuring Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s drawing of the Christmas Rose ( Helleborus Niger ). Featuring a lovely red and white colour theme with a portrait of the artist on the reverse and detailed information about the work.
The drawing was labelled by Mackintosh as ‘Chrismas Rose’. It has been suggested by some scholars that the artist shows some signs of dyslexia in his writings.
The sketch is from a collection rediscovered in the National Library of Ireland and was made in Glasgow when Mackintosh was around 25 years old. Throughout his entire life the study and representation of flowers was to be a driving passion and a defining foundation of Mackintosh’s visual language. His genius and skill as a draftsman is evident in the vitality with which he stylishly records the details of the flower during the phases of its development.
