Autumn Evening ( Bois de Boulogne ) was painted by Russian-French artist Ivan Fedorovich Choultsé in the popular park landscape in the west of Paris around 1921. About the work
Born in Saint Petersburg in 1874 Ivan Fedorovich Choultsé emigrated to France in 1921 and held his first exhibition in Paris the following year. His development in Russia had seen him influenced by contemporaries such as Arkhip Kuindzhi. He became an established and well known artist with works acquired for Royal collections. Choultsé favoured painting natural landscapes unpopulated by people. His technique in painting light that appeared to emanate from within the canvas earned him worldwide fame. Autumn Evening is an intensely observed and idealised scene which immerses us in the glories of the Parisian autumn. A work of serene and arresting beauty to enjoy in your home.
