This beautiful Duille fine art print features Apple Blossom drawn in pencil and watercolour by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1915 at Walberswick. A beautiful botanical work full of Spring’s promise.
Here the work is reproduced at actual size in stunning resolution in a museum-quality archival print made using materials which will last for many years.
About the work
Mackintosh was living with his wife Margaret in the early part of the Great War period on the east coast of England from July 1914. Apple Blossom was painted at Walberswick the following year. It is one of a series of related drawings featuring wild flowers made around the same period which were intended for publication in a book. The drawings show the artist’s great skill in recording the intricate details of botanical subjects and presenting them with considerable graphic style. The designer’s eye is never far away and in Apple Blossom the composition and arrangement of the subject is most appealing. Here as with many of the series’ drawings the influence of Japanese woodblock masters can be seen.
Even in the depths of a grey winter Apple Blossom is a work full of gorgeous vitality to be enjoyed every day.
