“Almond Blossoms”. Vincent van Gogh. 1890.
This stunning Duille fine art print features ‘Almond Blossoms’ by renowned Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh.
Almond Blossoms was made in 1890 whilst van Gogh was living in the south of France at Arles .
The painting was made following news of the birth of his nephew who was named after him. Vincent chose to paint the blossom against a blue sky to symbolise new life.
About the work
Almond Blossoms is unique amongst van Gogh’s paintings. It is strongly inspired by his admiration for Japanese pictorial techniques which focus on specific details of blossom. Using dark lines to outline the branches of the tree the artist intensifies the impact of the subject on the viewer. The vivid, bright colours rendered in the southern light show the effect of his surroundings on the artist’s perception. This was the most productive time of van Gogh’s life. Almond Blossoms is a joyous work with a strong emotional power.
